North Korea Sanctions Put U.S. Importers At Risk

A number of Chinese industries are known to employ North Korean labor to manufacture their products. Some industries who have been indicated to have a potential for risk include seafood, textiles and flooring among others. Importers who import these products should take immediate steps to protect themselves from risk and every importer should be certain that their suppliers know about the sanctions and understand their role in helping the importer remain in compliance.

Importers should be able to demonstrate that they are exercising reasonable care and due diligence in making sure that their supply chain is not in violation of these sanctions. A good starting point would be to contact your suppliers and ask them to confirm (preferably in writing) that they do not utilize North Korean labor or factories to produce their products.
